In the 1880s larger Los Angeles County was mostly agricultural. Land booms and real estate schemes developed Southern California. In 1889, the southeastern part of LA County split off to become Orange County. Numerous depots of the Southern Pacific, Santa Fe, Union Pacific and Pacific Electric dotted the landscape. In the 1920s through 1940s, the railroads re-imagined their depots along with a re-envisioned Southern California. We’ll look at the variety of diverse depot designs that served Orange County. We’ll also see the small handful that survive today, and how they are used.
