Charles Silent was hardly a quiet public figure, having made a name for himself in northern California, territorial Arizona and in greater Los Angeles during the late 1800s and early 1900s. He was a lawyer, banker, real estate developer and much more during his remarkable career and was best known in his time for the creation of the exclusive Chester Place residential tract in Los Angeles, the development of the towns of Inglewood and Redondo Beach, and his spectacular Rancho Los Alisos, a country retreat in the foothills of Glendora. Homestead Museum Director Paul R. Spitzzeri will discuss Silent’s life and work, including Los Alisos.
